News from CensusTools

It's been another productive month! Since my February newsletter I have released 11 new census spreadsheets. My U.S. Special Schedules spreadsheet contains worksheets for the 1850-1860 Slave and 1850-1880 Mortality Schedules, the 1883 List of Pensioners, and the 1890 Surviving Veterans and Widows Schedule.

My most recent releases are four state census spreadsheet collections. The New York State Census Spreadsheet covers the years 1825-1925 including the 1890 New York City Police census. The Wisconsin spreadsheet covers 1836-1847 Wisconsin Territory censuses as well as the 1855-1905 state censuses. For Kansas, the years covered are 1865 through 1925. The Massachusetts spreadsheet includes worksheets for 1855 and 1865. For New York, Wisconsin and Kansas I have also released versions of my Census Tracker and Checklist spreadsheets. There are only 2 state census years for Massachusetts, so unless there is a demand for a Massachusetts Tracker or Checklist, I won't be creating them.

I am excited about my state census spreadsheets because I have never even found a source for extraction forms, much less electronic versions. My state spreadsheets can even be useful to those researchers without Excel 97 or 2000. With the free Microsoft Excel Viewer (see my compatibility page), anyone can print blank census data extraction forms for state census data recording.

I hope that the addition of the state census spreadsheets will open new avenues of research for genealogists who haven't before considered using available state census records.
