Letters of the Month |

I love the letters and e-mails I get from people who have downloaded my spreadsheets. Here is a sampling from this past month. Gary, I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your work on the Census Tools. I have also been doing genealogy research for a good number of years and wanted to put the census records on the computer. I had seen a couple other forms, but wasn't satisfied with the results. I spent the last week entering the data, the longer I worked with the forms the more I liked your work I had a some problems, but they were solved by just adding the information to the notes. As the old saying goes "The check is in the mail." Serious I am mailing you a check tomorrow. Again thank you for all your hard work. Sharon (last name withheld)Arizona I'm glad I was able to help you get organized! And thanks for your support. Dear Gary I am so thrilled to get copies of your wonderful census forms!! I have looked and looked for something like this. I can't even imagine how much time it took to create them. I tried to put mine on computer, but got so discouraged that I finally quit. I am very pleased to send a contribution to help with your work. When you create something else great, please let me know.... .... I will forward your message on to others that I think will be interested too. Anita (last name withheld)The spreadsheets are tedious to produce but they are a labor of love. Thanks for the encouragement! Gary, you are brilliant. I entered one family branch in the census and the tracker. I had tried to make a spreadsheet myself to keep track of census research on each family, and almost as important - census efforts that failed. But mine pales in comparison with yours. You have everything on the 2 sheets and in the comments section one can make notations such as "Checked entire 1860 county and found no Cisels. They lived there and should have been listed." That way you can see at a glance what you found and why you didn't find a family in the census. Also, the census forms are wonderful. I love the way everything is listed and in the order used in the census. Yet they are compact enough to fit on one sheet. Carol (last name withheld)Sounds like you have discovered the power of using a Tracker spreadsheet to analyze your data! I hope they continue to help you unlock your genealogical puzzles. |
