In the four years I have made my spreadsheets available, I have been continuously frustrated by the number of e-mails I have to send to people explaining that MS Excel is required to use my creations. I would like nothing more than to be able to create them in a more commonly available program such as MS Works, but less sophisticated programs don't give me the tools I need. I at least want to make my spreadsheets available as high quality extraction sheets, so I recently converted every one of 160 individual worksheets to PDF format. That way, people without access to MS Excel can still download my spreadsheets, print them and enjoy the benefit of the paper copies. Even Excel users who need an extraction sheet can benefit because the quality of the print from a PDF copy may be better than than a print from Excel. That may not be that big a deal for the 1790-1930 census because there are many sources of printed extraction sheets. But try finding an extraction sheet for the 1850 Mortality Schedules, the 1883 Pensioners Schedules or Dawes Roll and it's not so easy. And forget about any other source for state census extraction sheets. And of course there are the completely original creations, the cemetery, ship manifest and research log. There are a total of 160 worksheets in the 43 spreadsheets I currently have available for download. To reduce the time required to download individual files, all 160 are available in a single file. They can also be downloaded as federal, international and state sets. The cemetery, manifest, research log and family group report are available individually. All that is needed to use the PDF versions is the free Adobe Reader. |
