Here's a sampling of the great notes and letters I have received since my last newsletter. Gary, I just wanted to drop you a quick note to let you know that after reading your home page description of your organization problems, I thought you must have been peeking at my desk! I downloaded your U.S. spreadsheet as well as the tracker and I am thrilled to be finally getting control of my records. Thanks for sharing your expertise with the rest of us!! Fran (last name withheld)Des Moines, Iowa Thank you Fran for writing and giving the rest of us confidence in the knowledge that it is possible to maintain organized census records. Dear Gary Thanks to you I was able to finally knock down a brick wall in my research. I was having terrible time locating information about my maternal great-great grandparents who I knew lived in New York. After reading about state census records in your March newsletter I decided to take a look and struck paydirt! I found them in the 1875 New York census which included the counties they were born in. Now I have a great lead in finding their birth records. Thank you Gary. George (last name withheld)Portland, Oregon Thanks George. When I started researching state census records to create my spreadsheets I was surprised at the amount of information available. There are many instances where questions were asked which weren't asked in federal censuses. Iowa in particular is crammed with information. |
